Amazon Introduces Advertising Tools for Small Businesses: Recommendations Will Arrive Before Automation

On September 22, Amazon announced new tools for Sponsored Ads advertisers, including an insights dashboard, automatic optimization and an expansion of Ads data manager. The official announcement gives different availability dates: the insights dashboard is scheduled for the United States in October 2026, with automatic optimization there in January 2027.

The expansion of data management to Sponsored Ads is described as already available to advertisers worldwide at the time of the announcement. It is therefore important to distinguish the three components and not read the headline as meaning that the whole package has already been activated in every account.

From Recommendation to Action

The insights dashboard is intended to suggest actions involving targeting, bids and budgets, with advertisers able to accept, edit or skip each recommendation. The announced automation goes a step further: adding and pausing keywords and expanding targeting within campaign settings.

Amazon says the actions can be tracked, edited or reversed. This is an essential part of the product description, because knowing what changed is just as important as making changes without manual intervention.

Sales Are Only Part of the Picture

Business owners should define in advance what improvement they want. Additional sales may be welcome, but advertising costs and the profit remaining on a product also need to be examined. The decision to expand a campaign does not rest solely on the number of orders.

For example, if a system adds a search term that generates sales, it is worth checking which products sold and how much it cost to reach those sales. This is a monitoring scenario, not a report of a result measured with the new tool. The same reasoning applies to a seasonal product or an item with limited stock.

To compare results over time, keep a record of settings and when automation was activated. Otherwise, it will be difficult to distinguish a market change from a change in how the campaign is managed.

What Is Relevant to an Israeli Business

A business operating on Amazon's US marketplace should check availability according to its advertising account and the market it serves. The business owner's location alone does not establish eligibility, and the announcement does not provide local pricing in shekels.

Until the forthcoming tools become available, businesses can prepare the groundwork: define goals, assess product page quality and make sure they understand which actions the system is supposed to perform. Automation is more useful when it is also easy to identify an action that needs to be stopped.

Amazon's move separates making a decision with the help of a recommendation from carrying out ongoing changes. Businesses should maintain that distinction in how they adopt the tools.
