IT Studies: What Does Linux Server Management Mean, What Are Servers and How Much Does an IT Professional Earn?

An IT course in Linux server management is a practical course designed to develop a career in infrastructure and Linux server administration, specializing in open-source methodologies. Read the article to understand whether this career is for you.

An IT course  prepares you to manage and operate Linux servers. During the course, you will acquire all the tools to join countless organizations in Israel and abroad that need IT staff to operate their servers.

Linux is an open-source operating system that has become the dominant system in the server field. Many organizations and server farms run their infrastructure on Linux because of its numerous advantages.

There is strong market demand for people who operate Linux systems, and as our reliance on communication networks and internet infrastructure grows, so does demand for IT professionals proficient in Linux. Large organizations maintain servers or use internet-based cloud services. Behind all user interfaces, there is ultimately infrastructure comprising large server farms and systems that manage those servers and ensure proper operation. IT studies prepare you to enter this field.

What Does an IT Professional Do?

IT professionals who have studied Linux are called Linux administrators. They specialize in the "back end," meaning the server side. They install, configure and maintain Linux systems. Their work includes:

  • Installing and configuring Linux systems, including databases and server-side scripts.
  •  Performing maintenance and analyzing logs.
  • Responsibility for system backups.
  • Technical support for server clients.
  • Maintaining system security.

A Linux system operator has a very important role in any organization's IT team. This position is generally found in medium and large organizations, since small organizations use cloud services rather than operating servers themselves.

Linux operators ensure smooth daily operation, prevent failures and resolve server problems. Linux professionals are sometimes also involved in development processes.

An IT Course: Is It Right for Me?

Although an IT professional's work may sound routine, in practice it can bring many challenges requiring all of one's personal abilities. Routine IT work requires technical skills and the ability to provide solutions to server clients. This means not just technical knowledge but communication skills with customers.

An IT professional needs considerable flexibility given the challenges and projects they are likely to encounter. On one hand, they must maintain routine tasks; on the other, they must provide specific solutions for changing needs that may arise suddenly.

Who the Course Suits

  • Beginners without background or experience: people who want to learn a new field and develop professionally in it.
  • People with experience: those with a computing background who want to develop and specialize in IT.
  • Graduates: people with academic qualifications but no experience in the field who want to change careers into high tech.
