The Open University: What a Course Costs in Fall 2026/27 and When Registration Closes

Registration for the fall semester is possible until October 23, 2026, subject to available places. Costs begin with the course price, but the registration bill may also include registration fees, a late surcharge and additional payments. Here are the details to check before approving payment.

As of October 6, anyone planning to start at the Open University in the fall semester can still explore registration. According to the official schedule, studies begin October 25. An open registration window does not guarantee a place in the desired course or group.

What an Undergraduate Course Costs

According to the fall 2026/27 tuition tables, a course with regular tutorials costs NIS 2,513 for a student who has not yet accumulated 18 credits. Students with at least 18 credits on registration day pay NIS 1,860 for a credit-bearing undergraduate academic course, subject to the reduction rules. Enhanced tutorials add NIS 363 per course.

Alongside these rates, the website also lists NIS 16,755, including as a basis for calculating doctoral and teaching-certificate tuition. It should not be used as a uniform price for an undergraduate academic year.

Undergraduate study uses a cumulative, uniform tuition system: costs are divided into payment units across the degree. Standard tracks spread them over 20 courses, while some programs have a different quota. The number of courses selected for a semester therefore determines the immediate payment, but not the full degree cost by itself. Additional tuition-free courses are also subject to the system's conditions and the student's individual balance.

Extras to Include in the Budget

The payment table lists a NIS 496 registration fee, a late-registration surcharge of NIS 403 for new students or NIS 488 for continuing students, and a NIS 52 security fee per course. Actual charges depend on the action and individual eligibility; do not automatically add every item to every registration.

According to the university's explanation of additional payments, the late-registration surcharge is charged once per semester for courses registered during that period. Welfare fees are optional, but anyone declining the service must submit a waiver when registering for their first course that year, no later than two weeks afterward.

This is also why cancellation terms should be checked before payment: registration fees and late-registration surcharges are nonrefundable under the published rules. A course price and the money returned if plans change are two different calculations.

Remaining Dates: Bachelor's and Master's Degrees

Regular undergraduate registration ended July 21, and the designated late-registration period ended September 4. However, the fall semester page allows registration until October 23 if places remain in the study group.

October 16 was set as the application deadline for new master's applicants. This does not apply to social psychology and cognitive psychology programs, which have separate instructions. After admission, students may register according to the program's published rules and dates.

Anyone registering in the final two weeks before the semester should allow for printed materials arriving after classes begin. Before last-minute registration, check material availability as well as a place in the group.

Credit Card or Payment Voucher: Check the Cost Before Approval

The university allows payment by credit card or a Postal Bank voucher. Its payment instructions state that a handling fee applies to card payments but show two different rates for 2026/27: 0.75% in one place and 0.74% in another. Check which rate will apply to your personal charge. According to the same page, paying by Postal Bank voucher avoids the card handling fee.

An option of up to five interest-free installments does not itself remove the handling fee. A credit financing plan is a different arrangement, bearing interest under the card company's terms.

Before registering, request one breakdown combining the course price, tutorial type, extra charges and payment method. This allows comparison based on the amount actually charged and helps fit registration into the semester budget.
